Chemical Peel Aftercare: What to Do in the First 7 Days

EVERYDAY

Why Aftercare Matters After a Chemical Peel

A professional peel is only one part of the result. Chemical peel aftercare is what helps protect the skin while it renews. The first week matters because the skin barrier may be more sensitive than usual.

At Linksfield Laser Clinic, peel advice is tailored to your skin and the type of peel used. Always follow your therapist's specific instructions first. This guide gives general expectations for clients who want to understand the recovery window.

Day 1: Keep It Calm

Your skin may look pink, feel warm or feel slightly tight. Avoid heat, exercise, steam, exfoliation and active ingredients unless your therapist says otherwise. Use gentle, approved products and do not overload the skin.

Days 2 to 3: Do Not Pick

Some peels cause visible flaking while others do not. If peeling starts, let it happen naturally. Picking or pulling loose skin can create irritation, marks or uneven healing.

Hydration and sun protection are usually the priorities. Keep skincare simple and avoid introducing new products during this period.

Days 4 to 7: Support the Barrier

By this stage, many clients notice smoother texture or a brighter appearance, but the skin can still be reactive. Continue avoiding harsh scrubs, strong acids and retinoids until your therapist confirms it is safe to restart them.

Use SPF every day. Freshly treated skin is more vulnerable to UV exposure, and skipping sunscreen can undermine the very pigmentation or texture concerns the peel is meant to improve.

What to Avoid After a Peel

  • Direct sun exposure and tanning
  • Saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga
  • Scrubs, exfoliating brushes and at-home acids
  • Retinoids until advised
  • Picking, peeling or scratching the skin

When to Contact Your Therapist

Contact the clinic if you experience unusual swelling, severe burning, blistering, signs of infection or discomfort that does not settle. Mild tightness or flaking can be normal, but severe reactions should be checked.

Plan Your Peel Properly

Do not book a peel right before a major event unless your therapist has advised that the treatment has little to no downtime. Skin needs time to settle, especially if pigmentation, acne or texture is being treated.

Book a skin consultation to choose the right peel and aftercare plan for your skin.
